For nearly a decade, Neu! Reekie! has been electrifying audiences in Edinburgh (and beyond) with its incendiary mix of spoken word, music and short films. The brainchild of poet-provocateurs Kevin Williamson and Michael Pedersen, Neu! Reekie! has been a key player in popularising spoken word for a new generation of young Scots, their stage a meeting ground where a golden generation of poets (Douglas Dunn, Jackie Kay, Liz Lochhead) share the limelight with tomorrow’s stars. For CoastWord, the Neu! Reekie! boys have pulled together another unmissable bill. In addition to Pedersen and Williamson, thrills and spills will be provided by folk musician Rachel Sermanni, singer-songwriter Louis Abbott (Admiral Fallow), former Scots Maker and Queen’s Medal for Poetry recipient and one of that ‘Golden Generation’, poet Liz Lochhead and CoastWord poet-in-residence Jenny Lindsay who will read poems written during her residency.
